RMS: Responsible mohair Standard. The RMS standard is a voluntary standard that involves the welfare of goats and the land they graze on.
The RMS goal is to provide the industry with a tool to identify farmers' best practices, ensure that mohair comes from a farm that gradually manages land, fully respects the animal welfare of goats, and respects the five freedoms of animal welfare.
RMS requires that all sites from mohair breeders to the final seller in business to business transactions must be certified. The final stage of certification usually involves clothing manufacturers or brands. Retailers (business to consumer) do not require certification. The farm has passed the certification of animal welfare, land management and social module of RMS. The subsequent stages of the supply chain have passed the certification required by the 'Content Declaration Standard'.
Mohair, also known as Angora goat hair, has good elasticity, pressure resistance and special luster, and is an excellent raw material for manufacturing plush fabrics. As Angora goats can not be completely raised in captivity, they are high-grade textile materials with the name of "luxury fiber". They are precious natural fiber fabrics second only to cashmere.
