In October 2022, the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) was born, a global multi-stakeholder certification program aimed at ensuring responsible, transparent, and sustainabledevelopment of solar energy.

SSI Annual Report 2025
The report indicates that by 2025, SSI has been fully implemented, successfully achieving independent certification of the first batch of production bases in accordance with SSI's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, and introducing supply chain traceability standards. It has attracted a group of global members committed to continuously driving industry progress, boasting 55 members, completing 22 ESG assessments and 6 traceability assessments, and issuing 14 ESG certifications.
In 2026, efforts will be focused on standard optimization, certification expansion, and governance improvement, with the goal of achieving 100% dual-standard certification for photovoltaic modules in Europe by 2028.

Two core complementary standards of SSI
SSI provides a credible framework specifically designed for the solar energy sector, aiming to support responsible practices and enhance transparency across the entire solar energy value chain. This initiative achieves this goal through two complementary standards.
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Standards
The SSI ESG standards establish clear and verifiable expectations for responsible behavior across all segments of the solar value chain. The performance of each site is evaluated based on the following aspects:
☆ Governance and Business Ethics
☆ Environmental management
☆ Human rights and labor rights (including occupational health and safety)
Supply chain traceability standards
This standard aims to assess whether SSI solar manufacturers have established a comprehensive system to achieve full traceability of materials throughout their production processes.
Its core requirements are: traceability system management; material isolation and circulation; custody chain recording; and graded maturity system.
These two standards, jointly verified by independent third parties, assist enterprises in demonstrating that their production and procurement practices adhere to social responsibility requirements. This, in turn, fosters continuous improvement and earns the trust of the market, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

SSI certification
SSI certification is granted after independent third-party assessment conducted by SSI-accredited assessment bodies (ABs). Mandatory assessments are carried out at the site level to evaluate whether products meet the SSI ESG standards and the SSI Supply Chain Traceability (SCT) standards. This assurance model includes:
1. Independent on-site assessment
2. Document review, on-site observation, unsupervised worker interviews, and stakeholder meetings
3. Evidence-based report
4. Quality control and review by the Secretariat
5. Secretariat's certification decision
6. Continuous monitoring and recertification cycle

Benefits of SSI Certification
☆ Meet the market access requirements of the EU, UK, and other international markets
☆ Strengthen due diligence on the supply chain to reduce compliance risks
☆ Enhance brand credibility and connect with global green procurement
☆ Towards the goal of 100% dual certification for components exported to Europe by 2028
