The global attention to sustainable development is increasing, and BCI certification is gradually shifting from a voluntary standard to a quasi mandatory requirement. It is expected that by 2030, over 50% of global cotton will come from sustainable certification channels such as BCI and organic cotton. Under this trend, Chinese foreign trade enterprises, especially those involved in the cotton industry, must fully recognize the urgency and importance of obtaining BCI certification as soon as possible. Enterprises should take immediate action, actively respond to BCI certification requirements, seize market opportunities, and seize the initiative in the sustainable development wave of the global cotton industry.
01 Enterprises that have upgraded to physical good cotton
According to BCI's latest regulations, such businesses must complete certification before September 30, 2025. If the physical cotton module is not completed on time, trading will be suspended until the enterprise obtains the certification certificate. Given that the certification process involves multiple stages such as application, document review, on-site evaluation, rectification of non conformities, and certification decisions, which typically take 1-2 months, it is recommended that companies initiate the certification process no later than early August 2025 to ensure sufficient time to meet the final deadline.
02 Enterprises that already have BCP accounts but have not upgraded to the physical good cotton trading module
It is necessary to contact a recognized third-party certification body, such as ASCP Arnold, as soon as possible. Only through certification can enterprises operate orders for good physical cotton. The certification process is equally complex, involving multiple stages of review and evaluation. Enterprises should take early action to avoid missing market opportunities due to certification delays.
03 Enterprises without BCP accounts yet
Firstly, companies can register a BCP account by calling 4008861251-1 or sending an email to
helpdesk@bettercotton.org Or visit the link https://bettercotton.org/membership/better-cotton-platform/
Register.
After completing the account registration, it is necessary to contact a third-party certification agency, such as ASCP Arnold, as soon as possible to complete the certification. The entire process is quite cumbersome and time is tight. Enterprises need to arrange their time reasonably and accelerate progress.
04 Enterprises that only use the balanced supervision mode of purchase, sales, and inventory to purchase and sell good physical cotton
At present, such enterprises do not require certification, but with the continuous upgrading and improvement of BCI standards, there is uncertainty about the future policy direction. Enterprises should continue to pay attention to the policy dynamics of BCI and prepare in advance to adapt quickly when policies change.
As a third-party certification body approved by BCI, ASCP has issued good cotton certificates to numerous clients. In the future, we look forward to working together with more customers to contribute to the prosperity of the global ecological environment and cotton industry.
